So— let me start of by saying this — I have no legacy to leave my children (yes, I am that poor), and I don’t expect a legacy to be left to me by my “senior” family members.
The term has been thrown around and miss used for awhile. Sermons have been preached, funerals have been full, songs have even been written, of this word! It has been over used!! I cringe every time I hear it as it is wrongly used!! Now I do understand the implication or the assumption of people using the term “legacy” when refering to the teachings that we leave behind. Such as teaching our peers the difference between right and wrong or a moral standard of living.
I personally refuse the guilt that has been laid on me for 30 some years! I will NEVER be able to live up to the standards of some people. I REFUSE to suffer over this. God Himslef has laid out the Bible in such away that this type of “standard adherance” (my term), is WRONG!! Yes God came to Moses with the 10 comandments. However, He also knew Man alone can not nor will we ever be able to live all of those 10 laws. Show me someone who has been able to consistently obey every one of them! They don’t exist.
So- What did happen?? Jesus came to show us and teach us as to what GRACE means. Grace does not mean a permit to indulge in selfish desires (sin).
I want to teach my family and my friends that a legacy that is expected of me will not happen, however — I would love to teach them that GRACE — God’s GRACE — is forever! That the only way to “get” this grace, or acheive it, or understand it, is to have a deep relationship with God. He shows us forgivness, love, patience, understanding, He is constently striving with us.
Luke 15:3-7 The Shepherd will search for you!! To lay out laws — to expect absolute obedience with no relationship is not what my Bible teaches. The relationship is what is forgoten!! With the relationship comes willful and voluntary obedience!
“Come and walk with me today and I will show you amazing things
When I’m gone, find my footsteps and take a stroll
Let me show you all that God has done
Let my steps tell a story that you will remember
Desire after God — Desire Heaven’s way of life.
But don’t whisper a legacy that spoils and corrupts.”
